The elections of Senators Ali Ndume of Borno South and Kaka Lawan of Borno Central have been confirmed by the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

The two appeals against the legislators were dismissed by a three-member court led by Justice Biobele Georgewill.

Ndume and Lawan were proclaimed the winners of the National Assembly elections in their respective senatorial districts by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Dissatisfied with the announcement, Muhammed Kumalia and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) disputed Lawan’s election, while Kudla Satumari and the PDP petitioned the state’s electoral tribunal against Ndume.

The two petitions were rejected by the Borno State National and State Election Petition Tribunal.

Kumalia and Satumari filed appeals with the Court of Appeal after being dissatisfied with the tribunal’s decisions.

While Yusuf Ali represented Kaka Shehu and the APC, Johnson Usman represented INEC, and Marcel Oru represented Mr Ndume, all of whom are Senior Advocates of Nigeria.

The top attorneys asked the court to dismiss the appeals as meritless.

The Court of Appeal affirmed the senior attorneys’ statements, ruling that the two cases contesting the senators’ elections lacked validity.

The court dismissed the challenges and upheld Misters Lawan and Ndume’s elections.
