The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the cases of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Remember that the PDP presidential candidate and his LP counterpart have filed appeals against the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) verdict, which maintained Tinubu’s electoral victory.

All parties involved agreed on a judgement date.

On Monday, the Supreme Court reserved ruling on an appeal filed by Atiku and the PDP against the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which confirmed Tinubu’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.

This was announced by a seven-member court panel led by Justice Inyang Okoro on Monday, after lawyers for parties adopted their briefs of argument and made final arguments.

The Supreme Court also heard arguments from lawyers for the parties on Atiku’s plea to provide new evidence on forged documents.

Mister Chris Uche, counsel for Atiku Abubakar, requested the court to approve the motion and allow their appeal, satisfy the requests sought, and disqualify Tinubu.

Respondents’ counsel, Abubakar Mahmoud for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun for President Tinubu, and Akin Olujinmi for the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged the court to dismiss both the application and the appeal for lack of merit.
