Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command said on Saturday it has discovered three unidentified corpses of young men suspected to have been killed by another gang of rival cult groups in an abandoned building at Abibatun Toronbi Community, Ijoko-Ota, in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of the state.

This comes barely a month after a month of bloodshed in Sagamu, during which at least eight people were killed by opposing cults.

The attackers allegedly macheted these young men to death and severed their left hands.

Two of the deceased, who allegedly belonged to the Eiye Confraternity, have been identified as Memory and Rilwan.

According to a statement from the state command’s spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, a community leader from Abibatun Toronbi in Ijoko, was reported to have told the police of the victims’ discovery in an unfinished building that also served as a criminal hideaway in the region.

The statement partly reads, “A community leader in Abibatun Toronbi Community, Ijoko, Ogun State, reported to the Ijoko Police Post that on October 13, 2023, three unidentified young men were found macheted to death in an abandoned building or criminal hideout within their community.

“Upon receipt of the report, policemen arrived at the scene and observed that the deceased left hands were cut off. Two were identified as Alias Memory, and one was Rilwan, a suspected cultist of the Eiye Confraternity group who has been on the police lookout for several crimes. Corpses were evacuated and deposited at the mortuary for further investigation, while the area is under close monitoring.

“The police have initiated a thorough investigation into the killings with the assistance of local informants. This led to the identification of the number one Eiye Confraternity as members of a rival cult group, the Eiye Confraternity.

“Efforts are ongoing to gather more information about the activities of these cult groups and their connections to other criminal acts in the area. The police are committed to bringing all perpetrators involved in cultism and related crimes to justice, ensuring the safety and security of the community.

“The community is encouraged to continue providing valuable information to the police to aid further investigation and the apprehension of other individuals involved in criminal activities in the area.”

Furthermore, the police called for collaborative efforts with the community, as this is said to be very essential in combating cultism and ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all residents.
