Balarabe Abbas Lawal, a ministerial nominee who collapsed while being vetted by the Senate on Wednesday, has been resuscitated.

The nominee, who sank to the floor after roughly 15 minutes of speaking, was resuscitated by medical staff called into the chamber.

The nominee was suffering from tiredness, according to a Senate source.

The Senate had gone into closed session while efforts were made within the chamber to resuscitate him.

An ambulance was used to transport the ministerial nominee out of the Senate chamber.

The screening resumed with the third nominee, Ondo State’s Ayodele Olawande before the Senate.

Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim of Kwara State and Mr. Ayodele Olawande of Ondo State are the other two new ministerial nominees being vetted by the Senate.

He was the second nominee to be screened after Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved to extend the sitting period beyond 2 p.m. to complete all of the day’s business.

During his speech, the nominee stated that he has been in government for a long time and wishes to add his experience to President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

“I want to state unequivocally that, as part of my career, I was appointed secretary to the government three times from 2015 to today,” he stated. I’d like to point out that I am most likely Nigeria’s longest-serving government secretary.

“I’ve been involved in administration and policy formulation.” Based on what I did at the federal and state levels, I have been a part of attempting to alter things in the country.

“I want to bring this experience to wherever I end up in the president’s new cabinet.” I’d like to thank all of you for listening, and I’d also like to thank the President of the Senate for allowing me to speak before the chambers.”
