Barcelona announced post-tax profits for the 2022–2023 season on Thursday, which came in higher than expected for the Spanish powerhouses looking to shore up their finances. The total amount of profits was 304 million euros ($321 million).

“Closed the 2022/23 financial year with a net profit of 304 million euros after tax, higher than that approved in last season’s budget,” Barca stated in a statement. The club had projected revenues of 859 million euros for the current season.

For 2022–2023, a profit of 274 million euros had been planned, which is 30 million euros less than the numbers released on Thursday.

The club also said that, as of June 2021, net debt had dropped from 680 million euros to 552 million euros.

Pre-tax profit of 11 million euros is what Barcelona has projected for the current 2023–24 season.

Barcelona went on, “The club has improved in all sectors of activity,” noting business ventures including ticketing, sponsorship, and merchandise.

Sales of 100 million euros were reported by Barcelona club shops, which were called “an absolute record.”

The Spanish league maintains tight limits over club expenditure on player transfers and salaries in accordance with financial fair play regulations.

Barca’s expenditure limit was lowered to 270 million euros two weeks ago.

Barcelona’s prior cap was 649 million euros, which was raised through a number of financial “levers” the team pulled, including the sale of future broadcast rights revenue.

The division’s spending cap will be applied as a penalty for surpassing the cap; Barcelona will only be permitted to use about half of its revenue to bolster their team until they make cuts to come in under the new restriction.
