Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan has failed in her bid to defend her world title at the World Athletics Championship in Budapest.
Amusan finished in 6th place in the final at the ongoing World Athletics Championship in Budapest on Thursday.
Danielle Williams of Jamaica won the championship in a season-best 12.43s, while Olympic winner Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico came in second in 12.44s, USA Kendra Harrison came in third in 12.46s, and World champion Amusan finished sixth in 12.62s in her third consecutive final.
At the 2022 World Championship in Eugene, USA, Amusan finished first with a 12.40 (African record) before breaking the 12.20 world mark set by Kendra Harrison in 2016.
The world hurdles record holder lost out on becoming the fourth woman, following Gail Devers and Michelle Perry of the United States and Sally Pearson of Australia, to win at least two gold medals in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the global championships.
The Nigerian athlete competed in her third consecutive final against Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico, Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland, Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, Kendra Harrison and Nia Ali of the United States of America, and Ackera Nugent and Danielle Williams of Jamaica at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary.
