On Tuesday, the Federal Government applied for the withdrawal of the illegal possession of firearms charge filed against the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Mohammed Bakodo Abubakar, Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, who approached the federal high court in Ikoyi with an oral application, stated that the withdrawal was the outcome of additional investigations.
Speaking with newsmen after the day’s proceedings, Abubakar stated that a fresh 20-count charge has been filed against Emefiele at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
On July 25, Emefiele was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession of firearms” at a federal high court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
He however pleaded not guilty to the firearm possession charge filed against him by the Ministry of Justice.
