Ferguson warns Manchester United’s new signings to meet club’s expectations

Former Manchester United veteran coach Sir Alex Ferguson has issued a warning to Manchester United’s new signees that “there’s no point them coming here if they don’t understand what expectation means”.

Over the summer, United have spent heavily in the transfer window, with huge spending on Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund all joining the club.

Coach Erik ten Hag has succeeded in filling the three major gaps in his squad efficiently, and he believes that the club has conducted good business.

The three players have recorded some level of success at their previous clubs but have taken a step up to join United, and Ferguson insists being able to cope with the expectation of winning titles for the club is a must for any new signing.

Speaking to CBS Sports, Ferguson said, “Well, there’s no point in them coming here if they don’t understand what expectation means.

“The expectation of this club is huge. Every player we brought in during my time did that; most of them accepted that.

“There’s no point coming to the club if you don’t have your own expectations and your own responsibility for performance. I think that’s a really important part.

“When you’re recruiting someone, you should really identify who you’re buying. That is important. When we looked at who we were going to buy, we watched them for a long time.

“It wasn’t an overnight thing. We did the right search, and we were sure they were the right type for the club.”
