England midfielder Jude Bellingham scored in his competitive Real Madrid debut in the club’s first La Liga triumph over Athletic Bilbao.
The 20-year-old, who joined Real Madrid for £88.5 million from Borussia Dortmund this summer, scored Real’s second goal with a close-range volley.
He is the first English player to score for Real Madrid in a competitive game since David Beckham in 2007.
Rodrygo had opened the scoring at San Mames with a near-post finish.
Bellingham stood out early in the second half with a run from well inside his own half, sliding between two Athletic defenders before sprinting to the outside of their box.
Bellingham appeared in all four of Real Madrid’s preseason friendly matches, including a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in Texas.
Beckham, a former England and Manchester United player, also scored on his Real Madrid debut in 2003.
Real finished second in La Liga last season, 10 points behind Barcelona.
