Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted he was wrong to criticise £100 million signings seven years ago, with Liverpool set to break the British transfer record to buy Brighton’s Moises Caicedo after a fee of £111 million was agreed overnight.
The Liverpool manager acknowledged that a contract had been reached between the two clubs, but no agreement with the player had been reached.
Klopp has, however, backtracked on comments made after Paul Pogba’s big-money move to Manchester United.
While reacting to Pogba‘s record-breaking move, Klopp reportedly said “The day that this is football, I’m not in a job anymore, because the game is about playing together”.
However, with Liverpool ready to spend big on Ecuadorian midfielder Caicedo, Klopp said this morning, “Everything changes. Do I like it? No. But did I realise I was wrong? Definitely. It is not great, but that is the way it goes.
“It will not change around again. Saudi Arabia will not help. We, as a club, have to try and make sure that with our resources, we get the best possible team together. We really try everything to bring together the best team or squad for us”.
Liverpool and Brighton have agreed a British record fee for midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The cost is thought to be approximately £110 million, with the midfielder scheduled to go to Liverpool for a medical on Friday.
Brighton set a bid deadline of midnight on Thursday, and if their appraisal was met, they would go with the highest bidder.
