Saudi Arabia’s Pro League club, Al-Hilal, has made a world-record proposal for Kylian Mbappé, said to be worth €300 million (£259 million). The transfer comes after Paris Saint-Germain left the forward out of their pre-season tour of Japan, vowing to sell him until he signed a new contract.

There have been no conversations between Al-Hilal and Mbappé, and PSG remains confident that the 24-year-old has agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer. Mbappé joined PSG from Monaco in 2018 for a fee of £166 million.

Mbappé informed PSG in June that he would decline the option of a one-year contract extension next summer.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the club’s president, said the following month: “If Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract. We don’t want to lose the best player in the world for free; we can’t do that.”

Saudi Pro League clubs have been spending huge sums this summer to sign players from Europe.

This summer, Saudi Pro League clubs spent a lot of money to bring in European stars.

Al-Hilal are one of four teams in the kingdom controlled by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, which also owns Newcastle United. They have signed Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, and Kalidou Koulibaly. They are also nearing agreements with Zenit Saint Petersburg and Fulham to acquire attackers Malcom and Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Mbappé came close to joining Real Madrid last summer before extending his stay in Paris.
