The Department of Secret Service (DSS) allegedly stated that Maxwell Okpara, Godwin Emefiele’s defence counsel, mobilized other like-minded lawyers against her Director General of Secret Service (DGSS). In an attempt to publicly defend the Director General with a social media post on its official Twitter page, it shot itself in the foot with unprofessional conduct and ethnic profiling portrayal.

Chronicle NG reported that the renowned intelligence agency, DSS, berated Godwin Emefiele’s lawyer, Maxwell Okpara, labelling him “charge and bail, overzealous, uninformed IPOB/ESN” over his defence of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor.

The DSS made this social media post at about 11:50 GMT without rebuttal or apology. Nigerians were aghast as commentary started pouring in.

Joseph Onuorah condemned the DSS Act: This is institutionalized ethnic profiling. If you have an issue with Emefiele, his lawyers, and the crimes they committed in CBN, why make it an SE issue? This is madness and has to stop immediately.

Blogger Jackson Ude reacted: When I said the DSS is now a rogue agency, this is one of the reasons. How can an intelligence agency, an @FBI equivalent, write this kind of trash on her official Twitter handle? This is purely disgraceful!

Also, @AfamDeluxo dismayedly said, This is what happens when you sleep, breathe, and dream about Igbo people. The handler is probably one of these numerous bush dwellers like Qudus we have out here. Imagine the FBI making tweets like this. God forbid!

The @VoiceOfTheEast concluded that Igbophobia is at an all-time high and is now becoming Institutional. Here is the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Agency’s official Tweet. Ndi Igbo Ndo! Igbo Phobia is now government-sponsored!

Damilola Omo Odedina, in disbelief, said, This DSS handler forgot to switch to his personal account and uttered everything from his heart into this tweet. Imagine the people in charge of our security in this country. Jesus Christ! . @Irunnia_ In the same line of thought, I saw this and thought it was photoshopped or from a parody account. Look at what they’re tweeting from their official account. The state of this country is mehn.

A confused tweeter, @poloM77, said, I have always said this account is a fake DSS account!! Or should I say, if this is an authentic account of the DSS, then it’s truly a shame what our security services have become. We should just call this the DSS Political Party of Nigeria.

Ogun-based @Letter_to_Jack sought clarification and said, Can the president of Nigeria and Senate president please confirm if this is indeed the official account of the State Security Service? They are supposed to be the finest personnel in our intelligence community. Why are they tweeting like some half-baked, angry teenager? This is shocking, irresponsible, embarrassing, and sad. Admin has to go.

Renowned Nairabet CEO, politician, and business mogul, Akin Alabi, gave advice for hired Twitter handlers. Use a dedicated phone for your boss, client, company, or agency. Switching accounts causes this.
