The Ondo state Police have arrested a nurse, health assistant, and security guard at the Comprehensive Health Centre over a missing placenta.

According to the report, the incident happened at the Comprehensive Health Centre at Emure-IIe, Owo Local Government Area.

The state police command, led by SP Olufunmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that about three persons, including the nurse, were on duty.

According to SP Olufunmilayo, the 23-year-old father of the new-born baby, Tunde Ijanusi, lodged a complaint to the divisional police about the missing placenta of his child in the hospital.

The young man disclosed that when he asked the health assistants in the hospital about the placenta in line with tradition, they couldn’t produce it. The grandmother of the child and mother of the 23-year-old father told the police that the hospital’s report said that a dog entered the facility and stole it.

Also, it was reported that after the issue became complicated, the hospital officials were in a haste to discharge the nursing mother and her child, taking money from the family.

“The importance of the placenta to the family, according to some community elders, is enormous. And it tells more about the child’s glory; hence, it is dangerous to be in the wrong hands.

Though the joy over the new born is tainted with sadness, the family is clinging to hope that spirited Nigerians and the government will find the missing placenta and serve justice to those involved,” the grandmother said.
