Recently, the Nigerian media was flooded with reports of the deaths of several prominent Nollywood movie stars who died within a few days of each other.

On the morning of Saturday, May 13, 2023, Nollywood was plunged into sadness following the death of veteran Yoruba actor Mukaila Adedigba, aka Sikiru Adeshina.

Kunle Iyiola Afod, a well-known Nollywood actor and film director, died in the early hours of the morning, according to his Instagram profile.

Nigerians were still in mourning for Adedigba when word broke that famous Nollywood actor Obinna Nwafor, often known as Saint Obi, had died at the age of 57 following a long illness.

Report said Saint Obi died on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the home of one of his siblings in Jos, Plateau State, but disagreement between his siblings delayed the announcement of his demise.

Black Saturday gave way but only for a Black Sunday as Nigerians were once again confronted with the news of the demise of another actor. Death was announced of popular Yoruba actor, Murphy Afolabi.

Afolabi reportedly died from injuries sustained from falling in his bathroom in the early hours of Sunday, May 14, 2023.

His colleague, Adekola Tijani, aka Kamilu, while speaking at his funeral on Monday, said Afolabi died while he was being rushed to the hospital after slipping in his bathroom.

Barely a few hours after the burial of Afolabi, another Nollywood actress, Wunmi Olowokandi died on Monday night. The cause of her death is yet to be made public.
