Following a recent altercation in the neighbourhood, Ahmed Musa, the acting commissioner of police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), met with representatives of the Hausa and Gbagyi communities in Gwarinpa.
One person died in the altercation, while another was hospitalized, according to a statement made on Monday in Abuja by Josephine Adeh, the police public relations officer for the Federal Capital Territory.
According to her, the Saturday fight between some Hausa and Gbagyi teenagers caused tension to be raised along Third Avenue in the Gwarinpa area, necessitating the meeting.
A suspect had been detained, according to the command spokesperson, and was helping the police identify the immediate and underlying reasons of the altercation.
The conference, according to Ms. Adeh, a superintendent of police, discussed strategies to keep the kids in control, restore harmony amongst the neighbourhoods, identify negative elements, and drive them out of the region.
She said that the acting CP advised the traditional chiefs to promote peace among the youngsters and to encourage them to file complaints via legitimate means rather than enforcing laws themselves.
She claims that the command has increased surveillance patrols in the regions to prevent the conflict from becoming worse.
