Authorities in Thailand issued a warning on Saturday advising citizens to stay inside due to sweltering heat. This warning included the capital city of Bangkok.

According to the meteorological authority, the temperature in Bangkok’s Bagna district reached 42 degrees Celsius (100 degrees Fahrenheit), while the heat index, which takes into account relative humidity and gauges how hot it feels, reached a record 54 C (129 F).

Thailand Authorities issued warnings advising citizens to stay inside and be cautious of the risk of heat stroke.

Amporn Supasert, 67, a grilled chicken seller in Bangkok, stated, “Sometimes, I seek refuge in the 7-11 convenience store… to escape the heat.”

According to Thailand’s department of disaster prevention and mitigation, at least 28 provinces will have Saturday highs of above 40 C.

Anucha Burapachaisri, a government official, said that on April 6, the nation used more than 39,000 megawatts of power, breaking the previous record of 32,000 megawatts set in April of last year due to the recent high heat.
