    INEC: RECs, Directors to be redployed

    In preparation for the 2023 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday announced the redeployment of two Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) and a few of its directors.

    The commission redeployed 385 employees nationally in March and said at the time that it would be a routine operation that would occur periodically.

    Festus Okoye, the National Commissioner for Information and Chairman of the Voter Education Committee, made a statement on behalf of INEC stating that the exercise was in accordance with the commission’s current policy.

    According to Okoye, the commission redistributed two RECs and eight directorate-level employees.

    According to the statement, Dr. Cyril Omorogbe, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Cross River State, has been transferred to serve as the REC in Akwa Ibom State. Dr. Alalibo Johnson Sinikiem, the REC of Edo State, was transferred to serve as the REC for Cross River State.

    Additionally, it stated that Engineer Paul Omokore, Director, Planning and Monitoring Department, Headquarters, Abuja, had been transferred to Director, ICT, Headquarters, Abuja.

    Engineer Chidi Nwafor, the director of ICT, was transferred to serve as the commission’s administrative secretary for Enugu State, and Chima Duruaku, the administrative secretary of Anambra State, was transferred to serve as the director of the planning and monitoring department at the headquarters in Abuja.

    Jude Okwuanu, the administrative secretary of Enugu State, was also set to start serving in Anambra State as the administrative secretary.
    According to the statement, Salisu Garba, the Director of the Electoral Operations Department, had been promoted to Director Procurement, Headquarters, Abuja, while Usman Musa Wase, an Acting Director, Human Resource Management, Headquarters, Abuja, had been appointed Acting Administrative Secretary, Nasarawa State.

    While Godwin Wada Ediba, an Acting Administrative Secretary in Nasarawa State, was transferred to serve as Acting Administrative Secretary in the FCT, Waziri Zanna, an Acting Administrative Secretary in the FCT, was reassigned as Acting Director, Human Resource Management, Headquarters, Abuja.

    The redeployments and postings, according to Okoye, will go into action right away, and the handing over and taking over will be completed by Friday, August 26, 2022, at the latest.
