Telecommunication giant MTN Nigeria has confirmed that it would roll out 5G network by Aug. 24.

The mobile Operator disclosed this at the 90th edition of the telecom consumer parliament, organised by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC in Lagos

In May, the NCC handed over the final letters of award of 5G spectrum licences to winners of the December 3.5GHz spectrum auctions.

The NCC already mandated them to begin offering 5G services in August.

During a panel discussion, a representative of MTN Nigeria, Mr. Chinedu Ezeigweneme, responded to the mandate by saying that MTN had made arrangements and was collaborating with all necessary parties to ensure a smooth roll out.

“We have implemented all of our plans. We have talked with the appropriate parties, and I can guarantee that MTN will launch 5G services on August 24,” Ezeigweneme added.

NCC, during the parliament discussion, stakeholders dispelled the fears that 5G network had health implications.

Dr. Bako Wakil, director of technical standards and network integrity at NCC, stated in a report he gave on the topic of the parliament that no relevant health and safety agency has identified any health risks associated with the 5G network.

Wakil asked industry stakeholders to work with the Commission to investigate the vast opportunities and potentials of the new technology, saying that industry participation was essential for the effective deployment of 5G services in Nigeria.

According to Wakil, 5G will offer a variety of advantages and opportunities that will speed up national growth and promote modern living.

According to him, the technology is anticipated to significantly improve networks through increased connection speed, mobility, and capacity as well as low-latency capabilities.

NAN reports that the theme of the meeting was “5G Technology: Opportunities and Challenges.
