The Iran-Iraqi quake has killed over 330, thousands injured

At least 328 were killed and some 3,950 were injured after a major 7.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the Iraq and Iran border region Sunday evening.

Iran’s state-run news agency reported those numbers just for its country after the temblor struck at 9:18 pm Iraqi time.

The quake caused panic among residents as well as structural damage, the Associated Press reports.

The quake was centered 19 miles outside the eastern Iraqi city of Halabja, according to the most recent measurements from the US Geological Survey.

More than 100 aftershocks were felt following the tremblor.

In Kermanshah, Iran, the Head of the Crisis Management Organization said a number of people had been wounded by debris, the Mehr News Agency reports.

People abandoned their homes to run into the streets, TasnimNews.com reports.

Electricity was cut off in Qasr-e Shirin.

The windows of some homes were broken.

The temblor was also felt in Baghdad, Iraq, where cars came to a standstill, Al Jazeera reports.

“Baghdad is not prone to earthquakes, so when people began to come outside, the shock was visible on the face,” Al Jazeera correspondent Imran Khan reported from the city.

“For the first few seconds, I actually thought an explosion had taken place, but as it carried on – for up to a minute – I realized it was an earthquake.”

Iranian news agency ILNA reported at least 14 provinces were affected by the quake, according to AP.
