President Bola Tinubu has settled the overdue arrears owed the Super Eagles and other national sporting teams by the Federal Government.
In a statement on Tinubu’s Media Centre’s X (formerly Twitter) handle sighted by Chronicle NG on Sunday, the payment includes the clearance of senior national team coach salary for up to 15 months, as well as payments of allowances and pledges owed to the senior national teams, ladies, and Under-20 national team.
The statement adds, “President @officialABAT has approved the payment of N12 billion outstanding backlog for Nigeria’s National teams of various sports, including Super Eagles and others.”
“The payment includes the clearing of senior national team coach salaries for up to 15 months, as well as payments of allowances and promises owed to the senior national teams, females, and Under-20 national team.”
“This is coming at a time when the Super Eagles of Nigeria are preparing to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which is billed to start later this month.”
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa had stated in a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday, that the Federal Government owed his players bouses for two games.
“In terms of the bonus, I believe they are only owing us for two games right now.” “Two games,” Musa remarked. “There is no other outstanding outside these two games.”
Musa went on to say that the players will “have a meeting with the coach and possibly the NFF officials so we can take the next step forward.”
