Egyptian giants Zamalek have parted ways with former Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro after a brief and underwhelming spell in charge, lasting less than three months.
The club announced the decision on Wednesday, confirming that the two parties had reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract.
“An agreement has been reached between Zamalek and coach Jose Peseiro to mutually terminate the contract, We wish you the best in your future endeavours.” the club posted on Facebook.
Peseiro, 65, was appointed on February 14 and became only the fifth manager in history to coach both of Egypt’s fierce rivals, Zamalek and Al Ahly.
Despite the significance of his appointment, his tenure quickly soured following disappointing performances.
Under his leadership, Zamalek were knocked out of both the CAF Confederation Cup and the Egyptian League Cup. In the league, the defending champions dropped to third place, trailing current leaders Pyramids by seven points.
Peseiro, who previously managed national teams including Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela, as well as clubs like FC Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Al Hilal, Al Wahda, and Sharjah, was unable to replicate past successes in Cairo.
His departure adds to Zamalek’s ongoing coaching instability and casts uncertainty over the club’s prospects for the remainder of the season.
