Elon Musk, billionaire and owner of social media platform X (formerly Twitter), has announced plans to remove the block feature from the service.

The block feature enables a user to stop other accounts from seeing or interacting with their posts and account in general.

In a post shared via the platform on Friday, the billionaire said the feature made “no sense” and would soon be unavailable for users.

“Block is going to be deleted as a “feature”, except for DMs,” he posted.

Reacting to Musk’s post, a user, @xdaily, said, “Removing blocking altogether is going too far. While it can be used for purposes such as cutting off people who disagree with you politically, it has an important role in combating harassment, trolls, and spam, which are a significant problem for many users on the platform.”

Musk responded by assuring that users could still utilize the mute feature and also block other accounts from sending their direct messages.

“You will still be able to mute accounts and block users for DM,” he said.

Musk has been implementing several changes ever since he acquired the micro blogging platform in 2022.

Shortly after taking over, he slashed the global workforce of the platform by half. Also started charging users for using the verification tick earlier this year.

Most recently, he rebranded the company’s name to “X.”. According to him, the move was to set the platform on course for becoming “the everything app”.
