Wike warns Fubara, says ‘disobeying court orders could result in anarchy’

The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has been accused by his predecessor, the Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, of disobeying a court ruling.

Wike said this on Tuesday in an interview with Politics Today on Channels Television.

He asserted that disobeying court orders could result in anarc and the collapse of law and order.

“I was a governor; I have always obeyed the rule of law. You heard the governor say that our state is turning into a state of anarchy where people do not obey the rule of law.

“You must obey the judgement of the court. You must not take the law into your own hands. The moment you don’t obey court judgement, you are inviting anarchy; you are inviting violence,” Wike said.

Wike further accused Fubara of openly proclaiming on national television that he would not comply with a court judgement.

The minister also took issue with his successor’s remarks on the police supplying security for the Rivers State local government poll.

In addition, the minister charged that Fubara was to blame for the recent violence that broke out in the state on Sunday.

Chronicle NG reports that political tension in the state escalated on Monday, with fresh explosions and protests occurring in some local government secretariats.

The unrest was linked to a recent order by Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, which ordered the unsealing of the secretariats of the 23 local governments and the immediate withdrawal of police officers who had been stationed there since July.

Fubara emphasised that polls must be held despite the police, All Progressives Congress, and Peoples Democratic Party withdrawing from the most recent LG election.

Tensions were high during the elections, which saw the Action People’s Party win 22 of the 23 chairmanship seats and the Action Alliance gain one seat.

On Sunday, Fubara swore in the 23 recently elected chairmen with haste.

But some experienced violent attacks after assuming office on Monday, and some political rivals set fire to council secretariats.

President Bola Tinubu gave the police orders to safeguard the state’s local government secretariat after the violence.
