    The family of late gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has called off her planned burial.

    The update was shared on Saturday by Lanre Alewilese, a close associate of the singer and a member of the burial planning committee.

    In the statement posted on social media, Alewilese said all burial plans had been cancelled due to unresolved issues within the family.

    He added that the committee regretted any inconvenience caused.

    “To whom it may concern: This is to inform you that all plans & arrangements for the burial of our Late Sister & Colleague; Lady Evang. Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. OMIJE OJUMI by the Burial Planning Committee has been CANCELLED totally.

    “This decision becomes necessary due to some issues arising from & within her family. We are deeply sorry & regret the inconveniences sir/ma. Ki Oluwa je ki Ojo o jinna si’ra won (Amin),” he wrote on Instagram.

    • Gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu ‘Omije Ojumi’ is dead

    Omije Ojumi died on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital after struggling with a long-term leg ailment.

    Her health challenges had earlier drawn attention from the gospel music community, with fellow artistes and fans offering prayers and support.

    Before the cancellation, burial activities had already circulated online.

    They included:

    • Service of songs on Tuesday, January 20, 2026

    • Candlelight procession on Tuesday, January 20, 2026

    • Artistes night on Tuesday, January 20, 2026

    • Interment on Wednesday, January 21, 2026

    These details were earlier shared by gospel singer Alayo Melody on behalf of the family.

    The family has not announced any new burial date.

    Earlier, misleading flyers about her burial had also surfaced online.

    Alayo Melody had warned fans to ignore unverified information and wait for official communication from the family.

    Omije Ojumi became widely known through her song Omije Ojumi, which gained acceptance in churches and Christian gatherings across the country.

    In the months leading up to her passing, videos of the singer receiving prayers in church while struggling with a leg ailment surfaced online, raising concern among fans and fellow gospel artistes.

    Bunmi Akinnaanu was a gospel music minister known for songs such as ‘Omije Ojumi’ and ‘O Ti Sure’. She was popular within church and Christian music circles, where her songs were widely shared and used for worship.
