Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been appointed by the World Bank as the Chairman of the African Governors’ Forum.
This was disclosed in a statement on the Ministry of Finance’s verified X handle on Saturday.
According to the ministry, Edun’s appointment makes it the first time Nigeria has assumed the role in 60 years.
The statement reads, “The appointment presents a unique opportunity for Nigeria and the implementation of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Nigeria’s Minister, @FinMinNigeria, and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, have been appointed to chair the African Governors’ Forum of the World Bank.
“This marks the first time Nigeria has assumed the role of chairman in 60 years.”
The World Bank’s African Governors’ Forum is a platform for African finance ministers and central bank governors to engage with the World Bank on issues of mutual interest.
