The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has published the results of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

The Council asserted that it was able to overcome obstacles such as insecurity and monetary policy, among others, through technical innovation, which resulted in the publication of almost 91 percent of applicants’ findings 44 days after the test finished.

Mr. Patrick Areghan, WAEC’s Head of Nigeria Office, stated this at a press conference on Monday at the body’s national office in Yaba, Lagos.

“Gentlemen of the media, with joy in my heart and gratitude to God Almighty, I, on behalf of the Registrar to Council, Management, and Staff of the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, Nigeria, welcome you to this press briefing to announce the release of the results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, for school candidates in Nigeria, 2023.”

“The results of 262,803 candidates out of a total of 1,613,733 candidates who sat for the examination are being withheld due to reports of cases of examination malpractice.”

Mr. Areghan added that out of a total of 1,613,733 applicants who took the exam, 1,361,608 candidates (84.38%) received credit or above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and/or Mathematics.

He went on to say that 1,287,920 applicants, or 79.81%, received credits or above in a minimum of five courses, including English Language and Mathematics.
