A US military aircraft carrying eight people crashed off the coast of Japan.
According to local media, the remains of the CV-22 osprey aircraft were most likely discovered off the coast of Yakushima Island.
According to reports, the osprey was attempting to land at Yakushima Airport. It was gathered that the plane’s left engine was on fire.
The plane was thought to be flying from Tokyo’s Yokota air base to Okinawa’s Kadena base.
Yakushima is located in Kagoshima prefecture, south of Japan’s Kyushu island.
The Osprey is a hybrid aircraft that can fly as both a helicopter and a turboprop.
Over the years, it has been involved in a number of deadly crashes.
Another Osprey crashed in northern Australia in August during a military drill for local forces, killing three US marines among the 23 people on board.
Three marines were killed in 2017 when an Osprey collided with the back of a transport ship while attempting to land at sea off Australia’s north coast.
