The United States (US) has excluded Nigeria from the list of eligible countries for its 2025 Visa Waiver Programme.

In the list published on Monday, the United Kingdom was excluded from the program but remains eligible under specific conditions.

The list also does not include any African countries, such as Ghana or South Africa.

While the majority of the VWP list remains untouched, the addition of Romania is a noteworthy development.

The United States has also concentrated on improving security procedures and prioritizing countries with strong diplomatic ties and border security norms.

According to the United States Bureau of Consular Affairs website, the Visa Waiver Program allows most citizens or nationals of participating nations to visit the United States for vacation or business for up to 90 days without requiring a visa.

The agency stated, “Travelers must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) approval prior to travel and meet all requirements explained below. If you prefer to have a visa in your passport, you may still apply for a visitor visa.”

The revised Visa Waiver Programme for 2025 includes policy adjustments on visa eligibility, revisions to the list of participating countries, and new travel policies.

This upgrade streamlines visa-free entrance into the United States for millions worldwide, making business, tourist, and transit travel more accessible.

The 2025 Visa Waiver Programme covers 40 countries whose citizens can now enter the United States without a visa.

Countries whose citizens can enter the United States without a visa include Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, and Japan.

Others are Slovenia, Latvia, South Korea, Liechtenstein, Spain, Lithuania, Sweden, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Qatar, Romania, and Monaco.
