The United States Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria has denied reports on some blogs and on social media that it has banned student visa for Nigerians.

Reacting to a blog post on Monday, the US embassy said it is ‘Fake News’ and should be disregarded by Nigerians across all social media platforms.

“#FakeNews Alert! Be advised, reports of Student Visa ban for Nigerians is false.

“If you have seen such manufactured item on Facebook and Twitter or received it via WhatsApp, please communicate that it is false,” the US Mission Nigeria tweeted.

The clarification by the US Mission Nigeria was not enough to soothe Nigerians who had not too good experiences at the US embassy.

Bosola XO quizzed the US Mission Nigeria with this question, “How many study visas have you given in the last 4 months?

Son Of A Teacher said the US embassy made it difficult for Nigerians to believe otherwise. “My friend was given admission by a school in US and you denied him visa twice. So why shouldn’t we believe the news?

On 14 May, US embassy announced the indefinite suspension of interview waivers for visa renewals, otherwise known as the “Dropbox” process.
