The Enugu State Police Command has revealed how a 200-level student of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, Emmanuel Gambo, allegedly killed a lady, Deborah Ememem, whom he had invited to a hotel following an argument over the payment of N15,000 after a sex romp.

Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s public relations officer, confirmed this in a statement released on Tuesday.

According to Ndukwe, Deborah, 22, was discovered dead in a hotel room in the Nsuka district of the state, triggering an investigation into her death.

Ndukwe stated that the inquiry revealed that Gambo stayed in a hotel with the lady on June 14, 2025, and they had rounds of intercourse.

The PPRO stated that an argument occurred after the lady allegedly requested an extra N15,000 to be added to the N5,000 they had initially agreed on.

He said, “The Enugu State Police Command wishes to inform the public that following an intensive, diligent, and intelligence-led investigation, detectives have arrested the male suspect in the murder of one Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem (female, aged 22), who was recently found dead in a hotel room in Nsukka. Her iPhone, tablet, earbuds, and other personal belongings were also successfully recovered. The 22-year-old male suspect, Emmanuel Gambo, hails from Kogi State.

“Findings revealed that on June 14, 2025, at about 9:00 p.m., the suspect, a second-year student of Material and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, checked into a hotel in Obukpa, Nsukka, with the deceased.

“In the early hours of June 15, 2025, a dispute ensued after a second round of intercourse, during which the deceased allegedly demanded an additional N15,000 from the suspect, on top of the N5,000 earlier paid.” The disagreement turned violent, and the suspect strangled her to death.”

According to the PPRO, after Gambo had allegedly strangled the lady to death, he wrapped her in a cloth and kept her under the hotel bed.

However, the horrible odour emanating from the decomposing body aroused the hotel administration, who notified the police.

Ndukwe noted that despite providing a false name and address, Gambo was arrested at his lodge in Nsukka with the deceased lady’s personal items.

“The suspect then wrapped the deceased’s body in a towel and a curtain torn from the hotel room and hid it under the bed. On June 16, 2025, at about 9:00 a.m., the hotel staff perceived a foul odour coming from the room.

“However, acting on credible and painstakingly gathered intelligence, the police detectives located and arrested the suspect at his lodge in Nsukka on July 2, 2025. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

“The deceased’s iPhone was immediately recovered from him. A bottle of Asconi Agor red wine, which the deceased had brought to the hotel, was also found in his possession. He later led detectives to recover the deceased’s Redmi tablet and earbuds, which he had thrown out through the hotel window in a bag after committing the crime,” Ndukwe stated.

He emphasised that the command would ensure that justice is done in the incident while also asking parents and guardians to be vigilant for their children and wards.

Meanwhile, because Gambo was in police custody when this report was filed, our correspondent was unable to independently verify his reported confessions.

When our journalist phoned the UNN Vice Chancellor’s Communication Secretary, Michael Asogwa, for a response, the female recipient stated that he was unavailable and could not meet with our correspondent.

Other contacts listed on the institution’s Public Relations Unit website were unavailable at the time of filing this report.
