The University of Jos (UNiJOS) has announced an over 300 percent increase in school fees from the current N45,000 to N213,000.
According to the revised school fees agreement signed by the university’s Registrar, the N213,000 price is for 100 and 200-level students, while 300-level students and beyond will now pay N160,000.
In 2017, the institution raised school tuition to N45,000 from N27,000. Professor Sabastian Maimako, the institution’s Vice Chancellor at the time, had highlighted shrinking budgetary allocations, mounting costs, and the need to upgrade some materials.
Maimako stated that the figure was supported by parents, former students, and other stakeholders at a meeting in Jos that took into account all aspects.
The increase in UNIJOS school fees comes a week after the University of Lagos (UNILAG) increased the fees of its institution. A move that prompted parents, guardians, and Nigerians in general to kick against the enormous hike in school fees by universities in the country.
