The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has expressed deep sadness over the killing of one of its students, Peter Mafuyai, a 300-level student of banking and finance, allegedly murdered.
Mafuyai was reportedly murdered and buried in a shallow grave on Sunday.
It was that the deceased was a 300-level student of the Department of Banking and Finance.
In a statement issued on Monday by the UNIJOS Registrar, Rejoice Songden, the institution clarified that the incident happened off campus, contrary to some media reports.
“The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University’s Council, Management, Staff, and Students, condoles with the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
“We pray for God’s comfort and strength during this painful period,” the statement partly read.
Management described the occurrence as unfortunate and informed parents, guardians, students, and the general public that campus security is intact.
“The university is cooperating with relevant security agencies who have commenced investigations to ensure justice is served and to prevent future occurrences,” the statement added.
The school reiterated its commitment to providing a safe environment for study and research.
It further stated that the university has completed academic activities for the 2024/2025 session and that students are scheduled to return for the 2025/2026 academic session on November 10, 2025.
