The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Nigeria has dismissed reports in the media and social media that terrorist organisation, Boko Haram bombed one of its helicopter.
In the fake news first reported by Daily Trust newspaper and Premium Times online newspaper, they claimed that five people were killed in the attack.
According to the news outlet, the attack happened in the northeast state of Borno.
But hours after the UNOCHA urged Nigerians to disregard the news and urged citizens to refrain from sharing the information.
“Contrarily to ongoing rumours, no UN helicopter was hit nor crashed today in north-east Nigeria.
“Please refrain from sharing any unconfirmed information. Thank you,” the UNOCHA said on its official Twitter handle.
The news paper outlets have since deleted the story which had began generating a scare on social media.
