Ukraine will lose war if US cuts funding – Zelensky

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky told Fox News late Tuesday that if Washington, Ukraine’s biggest military sponsor, withdrew funds, the country would lose the war.

The Ukrainian leader stated that it would be “very dangerous if we lose unity in Europe, and what is most important is unity between Ukraine and the United States.”.

US President-elect Donald Trump ran on the promise of ending US involvement in conflicts and instead using public funds to improve Americans’ lives.

He has stated that he will end the war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours but has not specified how.

“If they will cut, I think we will lose,” Zelensky told Fox News.

“Of course anyway we will stay, we will fight, we have our production, but it is not enough to prevail, and it thinks it is not enough to survive.”

Speaking on whether Trump would be able to influence Putin to end the war, Zelensky replied, “It will not be simple, but yes, he can because he is stronger than Putin.

“Putin is weaker than the United States. The President of the United States has the strength, authority, and weapons, and he can decrease the price of energy resources.”

Ukraine fired longer-range missiles supplied by the United States against Russian territory for the first time on Tuesday, a day after the US granted permission to use them.

A US defence official informed the BBC that US President Joe Biden has also agreed to provide Ukraine with anti-personnel land mines.

But Zelensky stated that Ukraine is going through a “very difficult period” on the battlefield.

According to data from the Institute for the Study of War, the Russian military is accelerating its advances on the front lines.

According to its study, Russian forces grabbed six times as much territory in 2024 as they did the previous year.

Based on documented social media footage and troop movements, the ISW reported that Moscow’s forces have conquered over 2,700 square kilometres of Ukrainian territory this year, compared to only 465 square kilometres in all of 2023.

Ukraine’s unexpected entry into Russia’s Kursk region is faltering, with Russian troops pushing Kyiv’s onslaught backwards.

Zelensky also criticised German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for conversing with Putin on the phone last week.

He told Fox News it was a “Pandora’s box” because Putin’s isolation would put more pressure on him.
