Jerry Springer, a very prominent and contentious figure in US television history, has died.
After battling pancreatic illness, the host of ‘The Jerry Springer Show,’ a popular talk show packed with crazy guests and spectacular confrontations that lasted 27 years, died quietly at his home in the Chicago region on Thursday morning. It was detected a few months ago, according to TMZ’s source.
A family spokesperson, however, stated that Jerry had been suffering from a brief illness.
Jerry Springer was a former politician who ran for the United States Congress in 1970, became a member of the Cincinnati City Council in 1971, and served as the city’s mayor for a single term in 1977.
Initially, Jerry’s shows in 1991 focused on political topics, but it later transformed into a popular and chaotic talk show, which became a massive hit in the late ’90s, even outdoing Oprah Winfrey’s show in certain cities. After running for 27 years, ‘Springer’ ended in 2018, followed by Jerry’s courtroom show, ‘Judge Jerry,’ which aired for three seasons.
He is survived by his daughter, Katie Springer, and his older sister, Evelyn.
