No fewer than 8,034 terrorists were killed by troops of the Nigerian Army and 11,623 arrested during various operations across the country in 2024.

In addition, crude oil worth N57,052,218,551 was found, and 6,376 abducted victims were rescued between January and December 2024.

Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, announced this during the biweekly military operations report in Abuja on Thursday.

He said, “Troop aggression across the various theatres of operation since the beginning of the year culminated in 8,034 neutralised terrorists; arrested 11,623; and rescued 6,376 hostages.

“Additionally, troops recovered 53,101,430 litres of stolen crude oil, 9,179,181 litres of illegally refined AGO, and 90,595 litres of DPK. Others are 156,095 litres of PMS, among other items.”

Buba also reported that troops had found 8,216 firearms and 211,459 rounds of ammunition.

He listed the retrieved items as follows: 4,053 AK-47 rifles, 1,123 locally made firearms, 731 Dane guns, and 240 pump-action guns.

He stressed that the military was maintaining the pressure through ongoing operations in numerous theatres around the country.

“The military is, through these operations, increasingly creating conditions in which terrorists can’t carry out acts of terror or harm citizens.

“On the whole, the armed forces are constantly examining ways to improve the effectiveness of their operations and guarantee the safety of citizens,” he said.

He stated that military activities are progressing towards victory in the fight.

According to Defence Headquarters, three troops from Operation Hadin Kai were killed on Monday while repelling a Boko Haram terrorist attack in Borno State’s Kukawa Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the headquarters on Tuesday, while mourning those who paid the ultimate price, Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede praised the troops for their fortitude and asked them to maintain the momentum.
