Troops of the 8 Division Garrison Strike Force, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralized six terrorists.

The troops also rescued a kidnapped underage girl during coordinated raids on insurgent camps in the Sububu Forest area of Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

Captain David Adewusi, the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, stated on Sunday that the operation was part of increased efforts to dismantle terrorist networks terrorizing rural communities in the Northwest.

“The offensive was aimed at dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring peace to Zamfara State. Our troops displayed exceptional bravery and tactical efficiency in neutralizing the threats encountered,” the statement partly read.

According to him, troops assaulted Indulumu village, killing two terrorists and recovering an AK-47 rifle.

The Strike Force later pushed to Ruduno village, killing four more terrorists, recovering another AK-47 rifle, a magazine containing 28 rounds of 7.62 mm ammo, and destroying two motorcycles used for logistics and transportation.

Adewusi stated that the army pushed farther into the forest and rescued a kidnapped underage victim named Halira Ibrahim.

“The rescue underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting vulnerable citizens and combating kidnapping in the region,” the statement added.

He also stated that multiple terrorist camps and life-support structures in Magaji, Galakaje, Filinga, and Kukatara had been destroyed, depriving the terrorists of safe havens and logistics assistance.

According to security specialists, the Sububu Forest has long served as a key refuge for armed groups involved in kidnappings for ransom, cattle rustling, and rural raids in Zamfara and neighboring states.

Recent military offensives try to interrupt the pattern of attacks that have displaced thousands of people and hampered agricultural, mining, and commercial routes.

The current operation comes amid ongoing military pressure in the Northwest, where federal and state authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to destroying criminal networks and boosting security for rural populations afflicted by long-term banditry.
