President Bola Tinubu urged the Senate on Tuesday to screen and confirm Mr. Taiwo Oyedele as minister of state for finance, succeeding Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.
The president also encouraged the upper house to appoint Magnus Abe, a former Rivers South-East senator, as chairman of Nigeria’s Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC.
The petitions were contained in separate letters read in plenary by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Tinubu encouraged the Senate to evaluate and confirm Oyedele’s nomination as part of ongoing changes to the Federal Executive Council.
Until his selection as minister, Oyedele, from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, was chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he oversaw reforms aimed at revamping Nigeria’s taxation system.
The fifty-year-old is an economist, accountant, and public policy specialist.
Oyedele worked at PwC for 22 years, starting in 2001 and advancing to the position of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
