President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration is actively addressing the country’s persistent electricity challenges amid growing frustration over poor power supply.
Speaking at the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu acknowledged widespread complaints about outages and unreliable electricity.
He said the government is taking the concerns seriously and working towards tangible improvements.
“We are paying attention to the problems of electricity and power,” the president said, assuring citizens that the situation would improve.
Tinubu revealed that a grid asset management company, Camco, is expected to inject about 1,500 megawatts into a new grid corridor, a move aimed at strengthening electricity supply across the country.
He added that improving power supply is critical to Nigeria’s industrial growth, promising better opportunities as reforms take shape.
Adelabu Apologises as Power Crisis Deepens
The minister of power, Bayo Adelabu, recently apologised to Nigerians over worsening outages and erratic supply.
Adelabu attributed the situation partly to extreme heat during the dry season, which has disrupted businesses, schools, and industries nationwide.
Despite the challenges, he maintained that the government remains committed to stabilising the sector.
According to him, power generation and distribution are expected to improve in the coming weeks, with a national target of 6,000 megawatts before the end of the year.
$100 Billion Needed to Fix Power Sector
Adelabu also disclosed that Nigeria requires more than $100 billion in combined public and private investment to overhaul its struggling electricity sector.
He pledged that the government would implement rapid corrective measures to address the crisis and deliver more reliable power to Nigerians.
