President Bola Tinubu has extended his condolences to the Muslim community in Nigeria following the death of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, leader of the Tijjaniyya Muslim Brotherhood.
The revered cleric died on Thursday at the age of 101.
In a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu said he received the news of Sheikh Bauchi’s passing with “profound sadness and a deep sense of loss.”
Describing the late scholar as a deeply pious figure, the President said: “Sheikh Bauchi’s death is monumental not only to his family and teeming followers but also to the nation.”
Tinubu also recalled the blessings and moral support he received from the cleric during the 2023 election, noting that Sheikh Bauchi was “a teacher, a father and a voice of moderation and reason.”
“As both a preacher and a notable exegete of the Holy Qur’an, he was an advocate of peace and piety. His death has created a huge void,” he added.
The President consoled the cleric’s family and followers, urging them to honour his legacy by upholding his teachings on peaceful coexistence, strengthening their relationship with God, and showing kindness to humanity.
