President Bola Tinubu is currently in closed-door negotiations with service chiefs and heads of security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The service chiefs arrived at the Villa’s courtyard about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Tuesday’s meeting comes just three hours after Tinubu nominated Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.) as Minister of Defence.
Abubakar Badaru, the Minister of Defence, resigned on Monday night, hours after Musa was sighted at the villa.
General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff, led the security heads to the meeting.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General W. Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke; and Vice Admiral I. Abbas are also in attendance.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. General Akomaye Undiandeye; the Director-General, Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, are also in attendance.
Tinubu announced a statewide security emergency last Wednesday in response to a string of abductions, outlining measures such as the recruitment of 20,000 additional police officers, the deployment of forest guards, and tighter protection of schools, churches, and mosques in high-risk regions.
