President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the management and staff of The Nation newspaper following the death of Evelyn Osagie, its Assistant Editor.
Osagie, 49, died last Sunday following a brief illness.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, issued a condolence statement on Saturday, calling her passing “sad and heartbreaking”.
He said, “The late Osagie was one of the nation’s most talented, creative, and hard-working correspondents.”
The statement recognised her achievements in journalism, particularly arts and cultural reporting, as well as her fight for women’s rights.
Tinubu concluded: “A consummate poet in written and spoken forms with widespread influence and contacts in literary and cultural circles, the late Osagie distinguished herself in the various fields she traversed.”
The President prayed for her soul’s quiet repose as well as strength for her family, colleagues, and The Nation newspaper’s management.
