Ibadan is set for history next Friday, 26 September 2025, when former Oyo State governor and senator, Rashidi Ladoja, will be installed as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland at the iconic Mapo Hall.
The grand coronation is expected to draw an array of Nigeria’s political heavyweights, including President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwakwanso.
Chairman of the Coronation Committee, Chief Bayo Oyero, confirmed the high-profile guest list, describing the ceremony as more than a royal installation, but a reaffirmation of Ibadan’s unique and democratic chieftaincy succession system — a tradition that has safeguarded peace and stability for generations.
“Oba Ladoja’s ascension is a journey of many years, guided by the wisdom of our ancestors,” Oyero said, adding that Ladoja’s wealth of experience as a senator, governor, and grassroots leader uniquely positions him to steer Ibadan into a new era of progress.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, hailed the Olubadan stool as “a pride of Yoruba culture and Nigerian heritage,” commending Governor Seyi Makinde for his respect for traditional institutions.
Dignitaries at the press briefing included CCII President-General, Barr. Ajeniyi Ajewole, Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, and the Ekeerin Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Hamidu Ajibade.
With Ibadan’s revered Mapo Hall as the backdrop, the city is set to host a celebration of unity, heritage, and leadership and the dawn of a new chapter under Oba Rashidi Ladoja.
