Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja following a two-week trip overseas.

Tinubu returned to his official residence, the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, early Wednesday.

In a tweet on Tuesday evening, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, disclosed that “President Bola Tinubu, along with his aides, will return to Nigeria tomorrow from Europe.”

Two weeks ago, on April 23, 2024, the President left Abuja for the Netherlands for a three-day official visit, after an invitation from Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

While in the Netherlands, he attended the Nigerian-Dutch Business and Investment Forum, which brought together the heads of conglomerates and organisations from both nations.

He also met separately with His Royal Majesty, King Willem-Alexander, and Queen Maxima of the Kingdom.

Tinubu travelled from the Netherlands to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to attend a World Economic Forum Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth, and Energy for Development, as previously stated by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on April 28–29.

He joined over 1,000 business, government, and academic leaders from more than 90 nations to examine progress made since the inaugural Growth Summit in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2023.

This was his second trip to the Gulf State in five months.

However, following the summit, the president did not immediately return to the country.

Although no official statement was published regarding the president’s subsequent commitments, sources inside the presidency revealed that he travelled to London for a private visit and was scheduled to return last weekend.

Tinubu made a similar private journey to London on June 24-28, 2023, where he met his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. He had attended the Paris Summit for the New Global Financial Pact a few days before.

His return to the country on Wednesday marks his 20th international trip since taking office last May, totaling 96 days abroad.
