A Nasarawa State High Court has ordered the remand of Timileyin Ajayi, an acclaimed gospel musician, who was captured with the severed head of Salome Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps.
The remand was announced in a short statement put on the Nasarawa State Police Command’s X page on Friday.
According to the statement, the suspect was arraigned while awaiting his formal arraignment.
The statement read, “Timileyin Ajayi was charged to court today and remanded in prison custody pending his formal arraignment.”
Chronicle NG reported on Tuesday that Ajayi was arrested by churchgoers for allegedly killing and dismembering Adaidu for suspected ritual purposes.
Caleb Umaru, the church’s Bible Study Teacher and General Secretary, explained that a member saw Ajayi acting strangely near a river.
He said that the member notified others when Ajayi threw a bag into the river, which was later recovered and discovered to contain his girlfriend’s decapitated head.
The defendant, who acknowledged conducting the crime, expressed no sorrow for his actions.
He said that the late Adaidu, his lover, was cheating on him, which caused him to kill her.
Meanwhile, members of the deceased family said that their sister was never in a connection with the suspect and that she was kidnapped, despite allegations that Adaidu had visited him.
