At least 20 people have been killed after Terrorists launched coordinated attacks on communities in Niger State and Kebbi State, deepening concerns over insecurity in northern Nigeria.
According to Reuters, the Niger attack occurred in Shiroro LGA, where residents said the assailants operated for hours, razing homes and overwhelming security personnel.
Villagers fled in large numbers to nearby communities including Gwada, Zumba, and Galadima Kogo in search of safety.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that terrorists invaded Bagna and Erena villages on Tuesday, killing two community guards and a driver, while several others sustained injuries.
In a similar wave of violence, suspected terrorists attacked communities in Kebbi, killing dozens and setting homes ablaze. A local cleric told TheCable that the attacks struck Debbe, Shabanda, and neighbouring villages.
Kebbi police spokesperson Bashir Usman confirmed the incident but said casualty figures are still being verified.
“At about 2230hrs, suspected Mamudawa terrorist elements attacked the villages, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property,” he said.
Usman added that police tactical teams from Illo Division responded swiftly, neutralising two attackers and recovering military and immigration uniforms.
Security forces have since been reinforced in the affected areas, with authorities urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
The attacks highlight ongoing security challenges across parts of northern Nigeria, where rural communities remain vulnerable to armed groups.
