Terrorists on Friday kidnapped three persons in the Kyaram district of the Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State, in what residents describe as a renewed wave of insecurity in the locality.

According to Mr. Shehu Kanam, a local resident who verified the occurrence to our correspondent, the victims were allegedly abducted while traveling to Dadin Kowa, a nearby community.

He claimed that the assailants are thought to be operating out of forested areas connected to the Yankari Game Reserve in nearby Bauchi State, which he characterized as a well-known criminal organization hideout.

“The bandits are operating from the game reserve, a well-known place, and they operate at will.

He claimed that communities have been left to fend for themselves, depending on God and their own initiative to solve the issue.

Kanam bemoaned the frequency of attacks and the fact that some go unreported because inhabitants are too tired and frustrated.

He emphasized that in order to rebuild public trust and guarantee the security of rural communities, the government must genuinely step in.

“This is a very disturbing situation. At the level of the Kanam Development Association alone, we have issued several statements urging the government to protect the people, yet nothing seems to be changing. We are becoming hopeless by the day,” he added.

When contacted, Alabo Alfred, the state’s police public relations officer, stated that efforts were being made to get complete information about the occurrence.

“We are trying to get the full facts surrounding the matter. We will get back to you on that,” he said.

To stop recurrent attacks and protect people and property in the impacted towns, locals have persisted in calling for increased security.
