Victor Osimhen scored a brace as the Super Eagles booked a place in the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals with a 4–0 victory over Mozambique in their Round of 16 clash in Fès.

The Super Eagles started strongly, building on their perfect group stage record, having won all three matches to top Group C.

Mozambique, making their first appearance in the Round of 16 after finishing as one of the finest third-place teams in Group F, struggled to keep up with Nigeria’s pace and attacking threat.

In the 20th minute, Ademola Lookman converted an Akor Adams assist to give the Super Eagles an early lead.

Victor Osimhen doubled the lead five minutes later, and Lookman put him up again in the 47th minute to make it three. Adams Akor scored Nigeria’s fourth goal in the 75th minute.

Wilfred Ndidi captained the midfield alongside Frank Onyeka and Alex Iwobi, with Stanley Nwabali returning in goal.

The back four of Bright Osayi-Samuel, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, and Bruno Onyemaechi held Mozambique at bay throughout the game.

In the second half, Chelle refreshed his midfield by replacing Adams Akor and Lookman with Paul Onuachu and Samuel Chukwueze, and Onyeka and Ndidi with Tom Dele Bashiru and Onyedika. Moses Simon also appeared for Osimhen.

By the 80th minute, Nigeria had eight shots on goal, but Mozambique had failed to challenge Nwabali.

Nigeria advances to the quarter-finals with the win, keeping their momentum going as they seek their fourth AFCON crown. They will meet the victors of the match between Algeria and Congo DRC.
