Brian Brobbey scored a stunning late equalizer as Arsenal conceded their first goals since September and were forced to settle for a draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The Black Cats have been a breath of fresh air since their return to the top division, rising to the challenge of facing a team that had won their previous ten games in all competitions.

Sunderland were rewarded for an outstanding first-half performance when Dan Ballard, who came through Arsenal’s system, drove home the opening goal, as the visitors conceded for the first time in 812 minutes.

Arsenal came out stronger in the second half, equalizing when Declan Rice grabbed the ball in midfield and sent it to Bukayo Saka, who slid in a right-foot effort at the near post.

Martin Zubimendi hit the crossbar with a ferocious effort as Arsenal sought for a winner, which they believed they had when Leandro Trossard sent a magnificent 20-yard finish into the top left corner.

However, the home side did not give up.

David Raya made one save to deny Brobbey, but the substitute was unfazed when another chance to be Sunderland’s hero presented itself.

He sent a shot into the back of the net in the fourth minute of stoppage time, sparking wild celebrations on Wearside.

Arsenal now leads by seven points; however, this might be reduced when second-placed Manchester City hosts champions Liverpool on Sunday.

Sunderland, however, remains unbeaten at home, and this point moves them up to third place.
