Tottenham target Rashford in January transfer push

Tottenham Hotspur have been named as suitors in the race to sign Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford.

Having fallen down the pecking order under new head coach Ruben Amorim, Rashford has been made available for transfer this month but the significant cost of a deal – a reported fee of £40m plus Rashford’s huge wages – has left clubs exploring loan moves instead.

AC Milan are believed to be leading the race after reports of a formal bid emerged earlier this week, but the Daily Mail insist they are not alone as Tottenham are chasing Rashford’s signature as well.

Spurs are in a significant selection crisis, with Rodrigo Bentancur’s scary injury during Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg victory over Liverpool further depleting the numbers available to manager Ange Postecoglou.

In attack, both Richarlison and Wilson Odobert have been battling hamstring injuries, while there are doubts over the role of Timo Werner after Postecoglou openly criticised the Germany international last month.

A loan move for the striker would undoubtedly provide some much-needed help in a number of positions across Spurs’ front line, but whether United would be prepared to send the forward to a side who currently sit one point ahead of them in the Premier League standings remains to be seen.

Much could come down to Rashford’s wages. Reports suggest Milan are reluctant to even pay half of his salary, worth over £300,000 per week, which may open the door for Spurs if they can submit a superior offer. Borussia Dortmund and Juventus are also linked.
